The SVC Winery Project is a company specialising in the consulting and design of wine cellars. For more than 30 years, we have been supporting our clients in all phases of the construction of new wine cellars, providing them with a complete and customised service. In this article, we take you on an immersive journey inside our work using a sequence of images and their brief description to give you a closer experience of all the stages of progress.
Specifically, we tell you about the birth of Tenuta Meraviglia, a wine cellar built inside a disused quarry near Bolgheri, in the province of Livorno and commissioned to SVC Winery Project by the Dievole S.p.A. group.
An ambitious and innovative project, in an area renowned for its natural beauty and winemaking tradition; an important challenge for our company, which we accepted with the enthusiasm and professionalism that distinguish us.
Let’s start with the basics: the securing and foundations of the cellar
Work on Tenuta Meraviglia officially began about two years ago, on 25 July 2022.
In the first phase, the site was secured. Subsequently, the excavations necessary for the foundations were carried out, accompanied by an earthworks that allowed direct access for excavators and construction equipment. These initial operations were essential to prepare the ground to accommodate the structure.
In September 2022, work got underway with the construction of the foundations. This crucial step was carried out with great care, to ensure the structural solidity of the building and the correct distribution of weight on the ground, which had previously been analysed to ascertain its geotechnical conformation. The use of containment diaphragms made it possible to excavate vertically and create reinforced concrete bulkheads, ensuring the necessary stability for the construction.
The new cellar will be developed on three levels, one of which will be underground and will house the future barrel cellar, the beating heart of wine production. The design of these spaces reflects meticulous attention to oenological requirements, with a focus on quality and production efficiency.
After the foundation, the supporting structure: the construction of the foundation slab
In November 2022, construction of the load-bearing structure began with the construction of the foundation slab. Using electro-welded steel mesh, the structure was designed to support the expected loads, with particular attention to stresses. This monolithic concrete body not only ensures the robustness of the cellar, but also insulates the structure from soil moisture, a critical element in preserving the quality of the wines produced.
This is just the beginning of the journey into the construction of the new Tenuta Meraviglia winery and our ‘construction site stories’. Further articles will follow, documenting the progress and challenges faced, offering an in-depth look at a project that promises to become a landmark on the Tuscan wine scene.
