Antinori in Chianti Classico recently won the award for the best winery in the world at the ‘World’s Best Vineyards 2022‘. This absolute triumph is also attributed to the SVC Winery Project, which supported the creation and design of this magnificent and highly visited winery.
The architecture of the winery has not altered the topography of the landscape; it is a completely underground project with a strong expressive impact, using local natural materials such as terracotta, wood, and corten steel.
The structure, the result of seven years of work, was designed to combine functional production with aesthetic beauty. Its imposing presence is disguised by a vineyard-covered roof, with two horizontal cuts that allow natural light to enter
The expansive underground barrel rooms, where the wine undergoes its slow maturation process, blend seamlessly into the natural folds of an unaltered yet renewed landscape.
The earth insulates and thermally protects the technical and aging areas, reclaiming its value and centrality. This creates a new working environment where the slopes facilitate the movement of the product.
The use of sustainable processes, which utilize gravity to move the grapes from the harvest hoppers to the fermentation vats, makes this gem in the Chianti region a perfect blend of nature and industry.
The hand-harvested grapes, thanks to a vibrating hopper, are directed into destemmer-crushers without the aid of mechanical components to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The must, along with the skins, then travels through a steel conduit and enters tanks where the winemaking process occurs at a controlled temperature.
The unique production facilities of this winery blend innovation, technology, and tradition, enabling the creation of high-quality wines.
